So, I realized today that I've got this diet under my belt. It's kinda boring sometimes and I still miss cheese & butter, but most of the strong cravings are gone and it's really not all that hard to say no to the non-PCP-compliant stuff.
On the other hand, when lunch gets inconvenient (which has happened 3 or 4 times since the start of the program), I don't bat an eye at the thought of grabbing a veggie sandwich or a shrimp salad. It doesn't feel like breaking the rules since it's all the right stuff (no fats, sugar or salt), but it's obviously not perfectly weighed, so it's kinda lame and Ramiro (who's really into playing the perfect gram-age game) is not really a fan. In essence, there's little of that guilty feeling that we all know equals cheating, but it means it's not a perfect PCP day.
The last couple days have been super busy (and super awesome!) and house chores have sort of fallen to the side lines so, as a result, creativity in the kitchen has reduced considerably (especially given the weird assemblage of uncooked veggies mocking me in the fridge). The newest rendition of the diet makes it kinda difficult to make anything that will produce leftovers unless you wanna eat the same lunch everyday, so it's a constant battle to make something I know I will enjoy. Ramiro doesn't mind mixing together weird combinations of carb/veggie/protein, but I like meals that feel like a meal. Please share ideas, folks!
Anyways, enough rambling for now and off to make some late-night meatballs!
PS: went back to jumping rope in the morning and realized it's not that much earlier out of bed and it makes it so much easier to split up the work out. Yay for morning jumping!
Awesome. It's tough to keep the food varied! Hope people give you some good ideas.
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the cooking problem. I'm trying to go raw sometimes, but raw broccoli is really difficult to eat when there's no ranch dressing handy. Tonight, perhaps I'll try bell peppers. As for ideas, I thought this vegan blogger chick had interesting recipes--some of them have no salt at all: http://www.chefchloe.com/blog/2-blog/10-hot-n-crusty-farmers-market-panini.html and http://www.chefchloe.com/blog/2-blog/24-bttr-oyster-mushroom-fiesta.html (replace the black beans with your protein).
ReplyDeletei try to keep some raw veggies around for when i run out of time: sugar snap peas, carrots, bell peppers, salad greens. but i've realized that i love having lots of cooked veggies in the fridge to combine. faves include: roasted broccoli or brussell sprouts, baked sweet potatoes, baked beets, parboiled green beans, broiled asparagus, kale chips. these i mainly prepare at night while making dinner for the fam. sometimes at lunch time i'll sautee some leafy greens in a skillet w/ a little apple cider or balsamic vinegar - only takes a minute or so. kale/collard/chard/spinach works great that way.
ReplyDeletefor grains, i alternate - i make a big pot of quinoa or brown rice and use that for some meals, for other meals i use a good dense bread.
proteins - my new fave discovery is thinly-sliced chicken breast. these take only a few minutes to cook. i put them in a grill pan with just lemon juice or balsamic - super yum! i usually make baked fish, grilled chicken, and turkey burgers 1 or 2 times a week - again, good to make a lot and stock up. another quick protein: sea scallops!
good luck figuring out your flow with with food - sounds like you're doing great!!
I'm pretty much doing what Ramiro is doing. The perfect gram mash it together and just eat the food thing. I'm content with that, so I don't have any recipes. But I did start infusing olive oils and using it as a dipping sauce for the veggies at night. I made a garlic/spicy one and a herby/sweet one. They are definitely a easy way to make things tastier.
ReplyDeleteHow was "the american"?
The American was really good. Some might find its pace a bit slow and at times the director seems to take himself a bit to seriously, but as far as Hitman movies go(I believe I've seen all of them) its squarely in my top ten list if not top five. (Ramiro)
